Follow the wave.
Manage the trade.
Your guide to installing Waveform, reading its signals and building a repeatable decision process.
What Waveform does
Waveform brings momentum waves, buy/sell signals and divergence into your TradingView chart. It supports discretionary decisions: the same signal can mean an entry opportunity, an exit decision or a reason to wait, depending on your position and the surrounding chart.

01 / Installation
From access to your first chart.
You are receiving permission to use an indicator on TradingView. Installation does not require sharing your password or pasting source code.
1. Confirm your username. Use the exact TradingView username attached to your order, not your email address or display name. Sign in to that same account.
2. Check your activation email. After confirmed payment, lifetime access is activated automatically and your setup email is sent. Wait for that confirmation before installing. If you need help, contact support@waveformtrading.com with your order reference.
3. Open a chart. Choose standard daily candles, then open Indicators > Invite-only scripts. Select Waveform Trading by leighroy20, matching your activation email.
4. Check the chart. Confirm that the wave panel and large signal markers display. Earlier examples show the working name Swing Wave V2. Install the published Waveform Trading indicator by leighroy20.
5. Check settings and save. Begin with the defaults listed on page 16. Check that the wave panel, large circles and diamonds are visible, then save the layout.
Do I need paid TradingView?
Invite-only access comes from the author; paying TradingView does not itself unlock Waveform. Basic currently allows two indicators per chart and does not include technical indicator alerts. An eligible paid plan is needed for those alerts. [1, 2]
The published indicator has been installed and reopened on a separate free TradingView account after invite-only access was granted. Its wave panel and EMA overlays belong to one indicator. Other separate indicators still count toward your plan allowance.

02 / The signals
Read the signal.
Choose the response.
Large green dots are buy signals. Large red dots are sell signals. They are information for a decision, not automatic orders.
Waveform chart detail: blue/purple waves, large outer-row signals, divergence lines and confirmation markers.Large green signal
If you are flat, review a possible long setup. If you are short, consider reducing or closing exposure. If already long, reassess the position in context. None of these actions is compulsory simply because a dot appeared.
Large red signal
If you are long, consider taking partial profit or closing. If you are flat and your instrument permits shorting, review a possible short setup. A sell signal can also mean staying out of a long trade.
Circle and diamond: the core entry
The core entry framework uses a divergence circle paired with its confirmation diamond. A separate extreme-zone crossover circle is not required. Standalone dots remain useful for partial exits and supplementary discretionary analysis; they are not core entries. Read the complete rules on page 11.
03 / Timing
A marker is not always
the decision time.
Historical charts show completed information. Live charts unfold one bar at a time.
Separate the pivot from its confirmation
With the default settings, a divergence circle is drawn on the earlier pivot after two later candles close. The diamond marks the later confirmation candle. The circle was not available at the earlier date. Turning off pivot placement puts both markers on the confirmation candle without changing when the signal becomes known.
Use what was known at the time
Use confirmed signals on completed candles. Waves and prices can still change on an open candle; a developing appearance is not a core entry.
When your reason for a trade includes confirmed divergence, wait for its actual confirmation. A standalone signal is a different decision and should be recorded as such.
A displayed confirmation close is a reference price, not a guaranteed fill. Record the actual execution price and costs in your journal.
Match market, exchange/feed, timeframe and settings when comparing your chart with a lesson. Different inputs can produce different displays.
How Waveform handles timing
Crossover and divergence signals require a closed candle. Divergence needs two later bars to confirm its pivot. The diamond marks that confirmation; alerts are not backdated. Waves and trend lines can still move on an open candle. The optional blue outline uses the last completed week, as explained on page 14. [4]
04 / Standalone signal
Supplementary use:
a standalone signal.
SOL / USD - daily - CRYPTO feed - 3 to 24 August 2026
SOL daily chart. The large green signal on 3 August precedes the rally; the large red signal on 24 August is a possible exit-review point. What is visible
The recorded starting event is a large green oversold crossover, without a paired daily bullish divergence. This illustrates supplementary discretionary use. It does not satisfy the new core entry rule requiring confirmed divergence and must not be counted as a core-framework trade.
How someone could respond
Review the surrounding price structure and risk before considering a long. At the later large red signal, an existing long could be reduced or closed. Taking profit does not automatically require opening a short.
Practice: write down what would invalidate the long before examining the later rally. Then decide how you would have responded to the red signal without knowing what happens next.
05 / Divergence-supported signal
Add confirmation.
Keep the timing honest.
XRP / USD - daily - CRYPTO feed - 15 to 25 August 2026
XRP daily chart. The lower divergence line and later confirmation are distinct from the earlier pivot markers. What is visible
Bullish divergence confirms on 15 August. The example begins at that confirmation close, $1.0017. The next selected large red signal is on 25 August, with a close of $1.4339.
How someone could respond
Check the paired large circle and the actual divergence confirmation before reviewing a core long. Under the core framework, each new confirmed opposing large dot is a planned partial-exit point; opposing confirmed divergence prompts closing or tightening the remainder. This price illustration is not a test of those execution rules.
Practice: identify the later confirmation marker before assigning an entry date. Do not start the example at the earlier circle because that makes the chart look more favourable.
06 / Short management
The same process.
The other direction.
BTC / USD - daily - January to February 2026
Bitcoin daily chart across the year. January bearish confirmation to February bullish confirmation is one selected interval within a larger, choppy sequence. The January bearish confirmation close is $93,642.57 on 18 January. The February bullish confirmation close is $67,628.73 on 22 February. The price fell about 27.8% between those points.
A worked partial-exit illustration
Starting with 100 units: reduce 20 units at the first chosen large opposing signal, then 30 units at the second. That leaves 50 units. Both percentages refer to the original position. This is one example, not a default Waveform rule.
Decide stop placement and adjustment before entering. If a stop closes the trade, the remaining position is zero. A later signal is a fresh decision. A new long after closing a short requires its own risk plan; a reversal is never automatic.
07 / Trade plan
Make the decision
before the pressure.
Complete this checklist before taking a signal. These are planning prompts, not prescribed settings.
Market and feed: Which instrument am I analysing, and is it the same instrument I can trade?
Timeframe: Which chart generates the setup? Does the higher-timeframe context agree or conflict?
Current position: Am I flat, long or short? Is this an entry decision or management of an existing position?
Signal: Is the large circle paired with a confirmed divergence diamond for a core entry? Record standalone analysis separately. When did usable information become available?
Invalidation: What price or condition proves this trade idea wrong? Where is the initial stop?
Risk and size: What is the maximum planned cash loss? Size the trade from the stop distance and instrument specifications; account for costs and possible slippage.
Exit plan: Full exit or partial exits? If partial, are percentages based on original or remaining size? What is the stop-update rule?
Adding or reversing: Is either permitted in this plan? Recalculate total risk. An extra signal is not permission to add without a limit.
Record: Save the decision-time chart, reasons, entry, stop, position changes, costs and final outcome.
08 / Troubleshooting
Get the chart working.
Then build familiarity.
I cannot see Invite-only scripts
Check that access has actually been activated and that you are signed in to the username supplied with your order. Refresh the chart. The tab appears after access is granted; buying a TradingView plan does not grant vendor access. [2, 3]
The chart says I have too many indicators
Remove an unused indicator and try again. Basic has two slots. A separate moving-average or other script can occupy an additional slot even when a lesson shows it alongside Waveform. [1]
My chart looks different
Compare the exact symbol/feed, timeframe, candle type, saved date and release settings. Lessons are snapshots. The newest candle and any developing signal may have changed since capture. Review the Style and Visibility tabs if a plot is hidden.
I cannot create a signal alert
Technical indicator alerts are a paid TradingView feature. Price alerts are different. V2+ exposes six signal conditions and a detailed confirmation channel. Follow page 15 to create an alert; a visible marker alone does not create a running alert. [1]
The indicator reports a calculation error
Record the error, market, timeframe, release and settings for support. Basic has a shorter calculation-time allowance than higher plans. Contact us with the error before assuming that a paid upgrade is necessary. [5]
What to send support
Use the contact in your order email. Include the order reference, TradingView username, indicator version and a screenshot with private information hidden. Do not send passwords, broker credentials or private account balances.
09 / Training and references
Keep the lessons close.
Your pack contains this PDF, an offline web guide and the Bitcoin walkthrough video. The online guide is at waveformtrading.com/start.
Watch the existing walkthrough
Open index.html in the accompanying pack, or the customer Start here page, and use the video player. The earlier Bitcoin walkthrough illustrates entries, partial exits and stops. Apply the circle-and-diamond rules on page 11; standalone-dot entries are supplementary examples. Position sizes and stop moves are illustrative choices.
Your learning path
Install the published indicator with the steps on page 2, then match the defaults on page 16. Free-account installation and reopening have been checked.
Read pages 3-4 for confirmation timing and pages 14-15 for weekly context and alert setup. Alerts are optional and require a suitable TradingView plan.
Use the online guide for the HBAR failed-setup lesson and annotated trade-management charts. The examples here focus on crypto; they do not establish results for every market.

10 / Core rules
Confirm. Protect.
Manage. Reassess.
Our aim is to capture opportunities in both directions throughout the year. It is not a promise of profits in every market or month.
Open with confirmation.
For a core long setup, pair a large green signal circle with confirmed bullish divergence. For a core short setup, pair a large red circle with confirmed bearish divergence. Wait for the actual confirmation diamond and a completed signal candle; do not backdate the entry to an earlier pivot. Check price structure and risk before entering.
Set the stop. Size the trade.
Our proposed starting rule: place a long stop below the relevant confirmed swing low, or a short stop above the relevant confirmed swing high, with a buffer for normal volatility and spread. Choose the stop from the setup, then size the position from the loss you can accept. If that risk does not fit, reduce size or skip the trade.
Take partial profits.
At each new confirmed large opposing dot, take the partial exit specified in your plan while the trade is in profit. Use the large fixed-row signals, not the small dots on the wave. Decide the fraction before entering and whether it applies to original or remaining size. If the trade is losing, treat the action as risk reduction, not profit-taking.
Close or protect the remainder.
When a large opposing circle is paired with confirmed opposing divergence, close the remaining position or tighten its stop according to your preplanned exit rule. If trailing, use a closer valid price-structure level and never loosen the stop to increase risk. On a combined signal, this remainder decision takes priority over the ordinary partial-exit step.
Reassess the other direction.
After closing, the opposing circle and confirmed diamond can form a new setup in the other direction. Recheck the entry, stop, position size and trading instrument before opening it. A reversal is a fresh trade, not an automatic flip. Unleveraged spot can sell a holding and wait for re-entry; it cannot open a short.
11 / Stop placement
Let structure define risk.
Use the price level that invalidates your setup, then size the trade around it.
Initial stop
For a long, identify the confirmed price swing low that invalidates the setup; place the stop below it. For a short, use the relevant confirmed swing high and place the stop above it. Use the traded instrument’s price structure, not the vertical position of a marker in the indicator pane.
Allow a volatility buffer
Account for spread and ordinary price noise outside the swing. ATR can help assess current volatility; choose a buffer that suits the instrument and timeframe. Do not force a tight stop simply to use more leverage. If the structure makes the cash risk too large, reduce the position or skip the trade.
Size from the planned loss
For a simple linear instrument, approximate units = planned cash risk / absolute entry-to-stop distance, before costs. Example only: entry $100, stop $95 and $50 planned price risk imply 10 units and $1,000 notional exposure. Fees, slippage and contract specifications must also be allowed for. Leverage does not change the $5 price risk per unit.
Trail without widening risk
After a confirmed opposing circle plus diamond, either close or follow the trailing rule selected before entry. For a long, use a newer higher confirmed swing low only if it allows a tighter stop below market; for a short, use a newer lower swing high above market. Never loosen the existing stop. If no sensible tighter level exists, closing is the simpler choice.
Keep execution under control
Stop orders can slip; stop-limit orders may not fill. Check the platform’s trigger price and liquidation rules. Resize or cancel obsolete protective orders after partial/full exits so they cannot unintentionally open another position. Use reduce-only protection where supported. Once stopped out, the trade is finished; any reversal needs a fresh plan.
Background: Fidelity exit strategies; Kraken stop-loss execution. Platform rules vary.
12 / Approach and exposure
Think in months.
Build over time.
Patient accumulation through planned trades. No get-rich-quick promise.
Daily and weekly first
These are our preferred, highest-conviction charts for swing setups. This is our trading approach, not a measured claim of superior signal accuracy. Plan around 30-90 days, with some shorter trades and longer runners. This is an intended horizon, not a measured average or a reason to hold an invalidated trade.
Shorter timeframes
Waveform can aid short-term or day-trading decisions, but we place less confidence in the signals alone. Pair it with price structure, support/resistance or another strategy for confluence on setups, entries and exits.
Spot: our starting point
Unleveraged spot uses your own capital and avoids margin liquidation, but assets can still lose substantial value. Opposing sell signals can reduce or close a holding. Spot alone cannot open a short.
3x: our preferred leveraged approach
For traders who understand and choose leverage, we prefer 3x over 5x or 10x. This is not low-risk or equivalent to spot. Set position size and downside plans first; losses as well as gains are magnified and liquidation remains possible.
5x and 10x: greater exposure
Experienced traders may incorporate Waveform into higher-leverage strategies, with selective entries, careful sizing, closer monitoring and regular stop reviews. Greater risk tolerance is not evidence that the strategy is suitable or profitable. Higher leverage does not improve signals.
Respect the holding costs
Funding or borrowing charges can accumulate over a 30-90-day hold. Stop orders do not guarantee an exit before liquidation. Account for costs, margin rules and volatility before entering, rather than relying on monitoring alone.

13 / Weekly alignment
A blue outline.
One extra piece of context.
V2+ keeps the original V2 signals and adds an optional daily view of completed weekly momentum.
Read the diamond
Green diamond with blue outline: bullish daily divergence agrees with bullish weekly momentum.
Red diamond with blue outline: bearish daily divergence agrees with bearish weekly momentum.
Diamond without an outline: the original confirmation still counts. Weekly momentum may oppose it, be neutral or be unavailable. An outline is not required by the core entry rule.
What weekly alignment means
The indicator compares weekly Wave 1 with weekly Wave 2 on the last completed weekly candle. Wave 1 above Wave 2 is bullish; below is bearish; equal is neutral. It does not require a weekly divergence diamond or weekly signal circle.
The weekly value stays fixed during the current week and updates when the next week begins. The outline uses context at the daily confirmation candle, not the earlier pivot. It describes directional agreement, not a win rate or guaranteed outcome.
Where it appears
The blue outline appears only on standard 1-day candles. Base circles and diamonds still work on other intervals. Weekly/higher and non-standard charts do not display this outline. Older screenshots in this guide predate the outline.
Keep or hide it
Open indicator Settings > Inputs > Weekly context. Toggle Outline daily diamonds aligned with weekly momentum. Divergence circles and lines and Show confirmation-time diamonds must also be enabled for the rim to appear. Hiding it does not remove the original signals or filter alerts.
14 / Alerts
Know what confirmed.
Know the weekly context.
Create alerts separately in TradingView. Adding Waveform to a chart does not activate notifications.
Set up detailed confirmation alerts
1. Choose the market and timeframe you want to monitor. Start with standard daily candles and the supplied defaults.
2. In Settings > Inputs > Weekly context, enable Enable detailed confirmation alerts.
3. Open Create Alert. Under Condition, select Waveform Trading, then Any alert() function call. This channel covers confirmed divergences in both directions, including those without a blue outline.
4. Choose available notification options and expiry, then create the alert. Confirm it appears as active in your Alerts list. An eligible plan with technical alerts is required. [1, 6]
What the message contains
Confirmed bullish or bearish divergence, symbol, chart interval, confirmation close, pivot price reference, weekly direction, last completed weekly closing timestamp and whether the directions agree. The pivot price is not an automatically recommended stop.
Messages trigger at confirmation candle close, including setups without a blue outline. Weekly context is supported on standard intervals below one week, including intraday charts; on weekly/higher or non-standard charts, or with insufficient history, it is unavailable. No trade is placed.
Other alert choices
For ordinary partial-exit reviews, select Big red: overbought crossover while long or Big green: oversold crossover while short. Also monitor confirmed divergences: an opposing circle plus diamond prompts closing or tightening the remainder. Small green/red crossover alerts refer to dots on the wave, not the large fixed-row management signals.
After changing settings
TradingView saves a snapshot when an alert is created. Recreate the alert after changing the script, settings, symbol or interval. Existing historical signals do not arrive as new notifications. No orders or position changes are made by an alert. [6]
